The annual listing for the most dangerous cities in the United States of America has been released today. The list, compiled by CQ Press, ranks 400 cities with a population of 75,000 residents or more.
CQ Press uses population data and reported crime data from the FBI to analyze each city. The crimes on which the analysis and ranking is based include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.
According to FBI statistics, St. Louis, Missouri is rated the most dangerous city in the United States of America. According to the study, for every 100,000 residents, there were 2700.1 violent crimes committed in St. Louis, in 2009. The national average is considered to be 429.4 violent crimes per 100,000 residents.
St. Louis is followed by Camden, New Jersey; Detroit, Michigan; Flint, Michigan; and Oakland, California. Cities that are more notorious for their crime rates, like New York City and Los Angeles, don’t even make the top 25.
Colonie, New York, with a population of 75,000, has been ranked the safest city in America for the second successive year.
